Parenting will bring out the best and the worst in us; bring us joys greater than we’ve ever known and challenges larger than any previously surmounted.
The process of conception and transition into parenthood looks different for everyone.
Any life change impacts the balance of the status quo. Sometimes we lose our balance: feeling out of control, powerless, or overwhelmed. This is especially true for the transition into parenthood when hormones have shifted, priorities are shifting, and a baby is coming to shift your world.
As our bodies and minds transform to welcome this new being into the world, things happen: previously healed hurts come open, the things that kept us calm and balanced in the past no longer work, new stressors emerge, hormone imbalances impact brain chemistry, and sometimes the unthinkable happens and we lose that baby before being able to introduce them to the world.
At such times, it can be incredibly helpful to have the support of a therapist to help you process thoughts and feelings; to develop skills, confidence and understanding; to grieve what is lost and celebrate what is gained.
The Root Therapy NYC staffs clinicians with special certification in helping manage the difficult and challenging process of becoming a parent.
A pearl is a beautiful thing that is produced by an injured life. It is the tear [that results] from the injury of the oyster. The treasure of our being in this world is also produced by an injured life. If we had not been wounded, if we had not been injured, then we will not produce the pearl.
