Life can test a relationship in ways you never dreamed and sometimes we look up from the dizzying changes and realize we hardly recognize ourselves let alone our partners.
Taking the time to honor yourself and your partnership through couple’s therapy can help build communication, trust, and strength.
Couples therapy starts with an initial evaluation during which your therapist will get to know you as a couple, discuss what led you to reach out now, explore your expectations for the therapeutic process, identify specific goals, and develop a shared plan for achieving these goals. Following the initial couples evaluation, individual evaluations will be scheduled with each partner to further explore how individual needs correlate with the identified goals and treatment plan for the couple.
Entering therapy as a couple is often a lot less linear than individual therapy – which makes sense since each individual brings a world of experience, culture, personality, and perspective into the room! After the initial three-part evaluation your therapist will work with you as a couple to develop a protocol of couples and individual sessions that is aligned with your schedules and needs.
Probably the biggest insight… is that happiness is not just a place, but also a process. Happiness is an ongoing process of fresh challenges, and… it takes the right attitudes and activities to continue to be happy.
